Close by and within reach of Richmond Airport, Norfolk and Virginia Beach lie to the south-east, while both Baltimore and Washington DC are directly north.

Richmond International Airport (RIC) Information: History and Facilities
In the year of 1972, Richmond Airport came into being and started life as the small and understated Richard Evelyn Byrd Flying Field. Within Henrico County and strategically close to the city of Richmond, the airport soon grew in terms of stature and popularity, resulting in the need for many expansion projects, the lengthening of its three runways, and the upgrading of passenger facilities.

By 2006, a major expansion plan commenced at great expense, including a large two-storey terminal, further gates and baggage reclaim areas, and a new control tower. Richmond International Airport (RIC) has also expanded its North parking garage, meaning that there are now more than 10,000 parking spaces in total.

There is a full-service bank operated by BB&T of Virginia located on the ground level of Richmond Airport's terminal, with a cash machine adjacent, as well as additional cash machines on the upper level and in the garage car park lobbies. Meanwhile, there is also a lost and found service available at the terminal and several shops, including outlets of Hudson News. The main eateries include Applebee's, Caribou Coffee, Vito's Market and Sam Adams.

Business and conference facilities at Richmond Airport can be found at the Teleconferencing Center on the lower level of the passenger terminal. There are plenty of phones and fax machines here, along with fast Internet access. Free Wi-Fi Internet is also offered on the second floor for laptop users.

Richmond International Airport (RIC) Information: About Richmond Tourism
The one-time capital of the Confederate States of America and capital of Virginia for more than 200 years, Richmond is not short on history. Bisected by the meandering James River, Richmond has become known for its fantastic collection of Civil War historical sites and the city's fine, old homes, which attract tourists all year round.

Many visitors fly into Richmond Airport (RIC) intending to view the city's key attractions, which include the Museum of the Confederacy on East Clay Street and the Science Museum of Virginia on West Broad Street. Downtown is a lovely waterfront district, and offers some great shopping, while the Dogwood Dell Festival of the Arts in July is a must-see summer event and always a crowd puller.
