Richmond International Airport (RIC)
Airport Information

(Richmond, Virginia - VA, USA)

Reputed to be amongst the most modern and well-equipped airports in the whole of eastern USA, Richmond International Airport (RIC) is located around 7 miles / 11 km to the southeast of the state capital of Richmond and is a gateway to central and eastern Virginia. The airport lies next to Lee Park, Lewis Gardens, Sandston and Highland Springs, and serves 21 destinations throughout the United States via nine major carriers to the tune of almost 3.5 million annual passengers.

Recently extended and now featuring increased terminal space, a whole new ticketing floor and luggage reclaim areas, Richmond Airport is well set to easily cope with expected growth. The facility is also known for its major cargo activities and features a significant amount of both warehouse and office space.

A range of ground transport at the airport connects downtown Richmond, its main districts, such as the Carytown area, Court End and Shockoe Bottom, along with the city's many central hotels. The Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) operates buses to the city and beyond, arriving and departing next to the terminal.

Further options include a fleet of shuttle buses, hotel courtesy shuttle buses for those with reservations, taxis, Groome Transportation sedans and limos. Close by and within reach of Richmond Airport, Norfolk and Virginia Beach lie to the south-east, while both Baltimore and Washington DC are directly north.

About Richmond Tourism

The one-time capital of the Confederate States of America and capital of Virginia for more than 200 years, Richmond is not short on history. Bisected by the meandering James River, Richmond has become known for its fantastic collection of Civil War historical sites and the city's fine, old homes, which attract tourists all year round.

Many visitors fly into Richmond Airport (RIC) intending to view the city's key attractions, which include the Museum of the Confederacy on East Clay Street and the Science Museum of Virginia on West Broad Street. Downtown is a lovely waterfront district, and offers some great shopping, while the Dogwood Dell Festival of the Arts in July is a must-see summer event and always a crowd puller.
